Jada martxan den legealdi honetan, zuekin, herritarrokin, harreman zuzena izatea ahalbidetuko duten baliabideak sortzea dugu lehentasunezko helburu. Horri esker, zeuen proposamenak zein eskaerak bideratzeaz gain, toki-administrazioaren kudeaketa irekia, parte hartzailea eta zintzoa bermatzeko aukera ere bereganatuko dugu.
Helburua erdieste bidera, web orria funtsezko gailua dela uste dugu; bai, jakin badakigu orriaren eraginkortasuna hobetzea (online izapideak kasu) eta ganorazko edukiekin hornitzea ezinbestekoa dela. Gauzak horrela, eta Internet bidezko komunikazioa gero eta arruntagoa, arinagoa eta onuragarriagoa izango denez, alkatetza honek gure weba erabiltzeko gonbitea luzatu nahi dizue.
Bisitariak izatekotan, Gares, Iruñea eta Lizarra hirien artean estrategikoki kokatzen den eta 2800 biztanle dituen herria dela adierazi nahi dizuegu. Bi merindade historiko hauekin muga egiteaz gain, Gares, Ilzarbe bailarako buru ere bada.
Alfonso I.a Borrokalariak ekin zion erdi aroko hiribilduaren sorrerari; ziur asko Gares herri baskoia kokatzen zen herrixkari hiri-gutuna emanda, Lizarrako forua eskuratuz 1122. urtean.
Gure herriari izena eman zion zubi erromatarraren eraikuntzak, elezahar askoren iturri zein Nafarroan erromanikoaren arkitektura zibilaren eredu esanguratsuenetarikoa dena, Somport eta Orreagatik zetozen eta Garesen biltzen ziren erromesei Arga ibaia zeharkatzea ahalbidetu zien.
Hauek Gareseko historia zabalaren pintzelkadak besterik ez dira. Gure herriaren herentzia aberatsak bisita merezi duten bitxi monumental ugari laga dizkigu: egun oraindik ikus daitezkeen harresi eta dorreak, elizak, benetan ederra den kale nagusian biltzen diren jauregitxo barrokoak edo guda karlistek eragindako orbaina arkitektonikoak. Aipatzekoak ere gure herritik gertu dauden interes historikoko gainontzeko lekuak; besteak beste, Eunateko eliza erromatar zoragarria, Olkotzeko dorrea edo Mendigorrian kokatzen den Andelosko hiri erromatarra.
Kontuak kontu, Gares historia baino askoz gehiago da. Arga ibaiaren ertzetan kokatua egoteak, kalitate goreneko gastronomia produktuak ekoiztea bermatu du: babarrunak, piperrak eta inguruko hainbat kooperatiba eta ardandegietan ekoizten den ardoa dira gure produktu esanguratsuenak. Behin turismo eguna bukatuta edo bideari ekin aurretik, produktu hauetaz gozatu ahal izateko hamaika jatetxe zein taberna eskura dituzue Garesen, baita lo egiteko hotelak, ostatuak eta aterpeak.
Hau guztia gutxi izango balitz, arro esan dezakegu zabala eta oso aktiboa den kultura eta gizarte mugimenduaren jabe dela gure herria: musika taldea, gaitariak, merkatarien elkartea, erraldoien konpartsa, talde feminista, antzerti taldea, etxe kaleratzeen kontrako plataforma, dantzariak, Santiago bidearen lagunen elkartea, APYMA etc. Hauek guztiak, herritarron zein bisitarien ardura soziokulturalak asetzeko hamaika ekintza eskaintzen dituzte urtean zehar. Hauen artean, uztailaren 24tik 29ra patroiaren izenean ospatzen diren festak zein irailaren azken asteburuan ospatzen den azoka (‘laya’ lasterketa ospetsua barne) bisitatzea bereziki gomendatzen diet bisitariei.
Azkenik, herrian dugun kirol eskaintza oparoaren inguruan mintzatu nahi natzaizue; futbol (C.D. Gares), saskibaloi (C.D.B. Gares), txirrindularitza, eskupilota, piraguismo edo patinaje taldeak ditugu Garesen. Hauek, udal kirol instalazioetan (igerilekuak, futbol zelaiak, polikiroldegia eta frontoia) garatzen dituzte euren ekintzak eta urtero ‘cross de reyes’, Soterraña lasterketa, piragua txapelketa edo Iruñea eta Gares arteko nazioarteko patinaje maratoia moduko ospakizunak antolatzen dituzte udaletxearekin batera.

As the mayor of Puente la Reina/Gares, I would like to welcome you all to our town’s website.
Firt of all, I would like to explain that one of our most important targets to be developed during these years is to build a direct relationship between citizens and the municipality; for that reason, we strongly believe that this website can be a powerful tool to guarantee the active and collective participation in every issue related with our town.
We know that we have to improve not only the effectiveness of it (for example, its online processes) but also the contents. But while we work on increasing our internet communication, we invite you all to use our website.
If you are a visitor, you should know that Puente la Reina/Gares is a town with 2800 residents, located between Pamplona and Estella; that is also the head of the Valdizarbe Valley.
The foundation of the medieval village was an initiative of king Alfonso I “the fighter”, who gave the ‘carta puebla’ to the place where previously was located the small Basque town of Gares. Later, the town obtained Estella’s ‘fuero’ (legal code) in 1122.
The construction of the Romanesque bridge that gives name to the village, was the beginning of many legends, as well as one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in Navarra. The bridge allowed pilgrims to cross the river Arga on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
The long historical trajectory of Puente la Reina/Gares has given us a unique appreciation of its monumental silhouette, with its great architectural jewels, such as the city walls and fortified towers, the church, or the Baroque palazzos along the beautiful main street. We must add that near our town you can also find interesting places such as the Romanesque church of Eunate, the tower of Olcoz, or the Roman city of Andelos in Mendigorria.
Puente la Reina/Gares is much more than history; being located on the banks of the river Arga, our citizens developed rich farming fields to produce delicious gastronomic products such as beans, peppers and wine. To enjoy these products after a long day visiting the region or to regain your energy to continue on walking to Santiago, we have plenty of restaurants, pubs, hotels and inns.
Do you want more? We are also very proud of our wide and active social and cultural movement: a brass band, the shopkeepers association, feminist and theatre groups, dantzaris (dancers) group, a social platform against home evictions, the Association of friends of the Camino de Santiago, etc. All these groups offer plenty of activities during the year to satisfy the socio-cultural curiosity of our citizens and visitors. I recommend you all to visit our town specially during July 24th to 29th, when we celebrate the festivities of our patron saint, or during the last weekend of September, when we celebrate the traditional market and the layas race, where participants have to run on top of traditional Basque farming tools.
Finally, I would like to highlight the wide range of sports practiced in Puente la Reina/Gares. We have football, basketball, cycling, handball, canoeing or roller teams, and great sports facilities to support them. We also organize annual sports events, such as cross, the Soterraña cycling race, or the international roller derby between Pamplona and Puente la Reina/Gares.
